Chapter 10 · The Smart Nutrition Made Simple Show
Optimizing Digestion and Enzymes
December 08, 2017
What is your perspective on people's digestion? Because I recently did an interview with a guy named Wade Lightheart and he has a company, but they specialize in digestive enzymes and probiotics and digestive related materials. And he had been a professional bodybuilder as a vegetarian and sort of his is one of course genetic is a big component but his whole thing is like look if you are actually digesting absorbing and assimilating your nutrients and specifically your proteins effectively which most people aren't doing and i've talked about this numerous times numerous times on the show then we could probably be getting by with a lot less protein and calories in general how do you guys address digestion as it pertains to people's goals and weight loss and muscle gain and stuff like that? Man, good question. Yeah, because that's a big one too. And I have yet to find somebody who has really good guts. So, you know, when we teach, you've heard it with my digestion simulation, we teach it top down. First thing is you have to teach your client how to chew their food correctly because people just don't chew enough. So everything has to start from there. You have to have a good neuroendocrine response, a calm, parasympathetic state, rest and digest, try not to eat too emotional. If you're emotional, do some headspace, do some meditation for 10 minutes before you eat and make sure you chew your food. And then as far as like digestive enzymes and things, we know that, uh, your thyroid controls, HCL production and HCL secretion of the stomach. So that going to be the number one thing is if your food is getting in your stomach and you not secreting enough acid you not going to be able to break the food down properly So that a big one So we typically will give people uh we like thorn biogest because it has everything you need from the stomach all the way down, um, all the way through the intestine, the, at least the small intestine. So we'll give a little bit of that. So we'll have a little bit of HCL and pepsin so we can break foods down and then we can digest some of the proteins. Um, and we'll give some pancreatic enzymes, um, just to give the pancreas a little bit of rest and to unwrap that food a little bit more because that's that's one of the things you know you could be i've got guys that come in they say they're hard gainers and they eat 7 000 calories a day we get them to run a and we get them to run a food log and they're eating you know five six seven thousand calories a day and they're still skinny we give them a digestive enzyme and all of a sudden they're growing on 3 000 calories and the fact is they've got malabsorption and they're just not getting the right nutrients into the cells because of stress but i absolutely agree with them and that's probably one of the cheapest things you can give somebody that's going to make the biggest bang for the buck is giving them some type of digestive enzyme but just also being aware that if somebody has any issues in the stomach like undiagnosed ulcer if they've got an h pylori infestation anything like that you want to be very careful giving them hydrochloric acid which is going to be in something like a biogas you know if that might be the case you can you can do some natural and easy things by adding more types of vinegars and things apple cider vinegar balsamic vinegar and add stuff like that to your food because it'll act like a weak acid and help to break some of that down as well but i i 100 agree with him there yeah yeah so
