Strategic Dieting: Blasts and Cruises

February 18, 2021

So the first three weeks I might go on a very low calorie diet, give them a lot of exercise. I might pull carbs out to lower some water. They see some weight loss. Maybe their blood pressure gets better. Now you've got proof of concept. But now that has to end and we have to go on a cruise mode for a while. And so we might go three weeks hard and then we cruise for like 10 to 12 weeks and we just chip away. And then we do another drop and then we go another 12. There's nothing wrong with that. The problem is when you say, well, I need to show them in the first six months. So you just put them on this 40, 50% caloric reduction and you make them suffer through that for six months and then they're good for a few weeks. And then all of a sudden they start binging and now they can't sleep well. And now they've got constipation and their guts are a mess and they're sore all the time. And now they've got new niggles. It makes no sense. so um what i prefer to do is show them in the first few weeks and say okay now that you've seen what we can do in a short period of time we're going to cruise and chip away uh and then we're going to do another one of these blasts at a later date okay very nice yeah and that kind of brings it to the the point that we were talking about there of of just taking taking your time with it a little bit more than than just having that that blast and yeah we can make them shredded in 12 weeks but is that longevity and probably the bounce back right after that is going to be quite poor like the binge eating and stuff like that and one thing that you did say that was that was quite interesting was that that thought process of the hypothalamus laying off your testosterone and laying off your hair skin nail health and things like that so you're saying that when we get down to a really low level of food intake and stuff like that all these hormonal and metabolic functions kind of go out the window then for us to continue to lose body fat is that Is that what you meant? You will, but the thing is, you're not just losing body fat. Now you're starting to lose other things. You're losing enzymes that you're going to need

When you pile food back on, you're losing muscle mass. If you lose muscle mass, you're using places to put fuel, places to store fuel, places to burn fuel. So it's really imperative that we try to not lose any muscle at all or even do, if you think about a recomp, if I eat sufficiently high amounts of protein, even on a slight caloric deficit, I can still put on muscle tissue because the thing is you're never truly in a deficit. OK, now this is the concept that that that I think I had drank three bottles of wine and started thinking about this again. I never shut this off even when I'm wasted. So
