Defining Metabolism: Anabolism vs. Catabolism
February 18, 2021
Yeah, I mean, OK, look, when you look at the metabolism, the way I the way I look at this is you're looking at a coin and you're trying to manage both sides of the coin. On one side, you have anabolic processes and on the other side, you have catabolic processes. So with an anabolic process, you're taking little things and you're putting them together to make big things. With a catabolic process, it's the opposite. You take big things, make them into smaller things. And you need both sides of this. You can't have one exclusively without the other, and your body doesn't. If you understand that concept and understand that you need both, then it's very easy to figure out how much percentage of time I need to spend in each one of those things in order to build a physique or build strength or build health. So, for instance, if you think about all young men when they get into weight training, they get into weight training, as far as I can see, for one main thing. And it's to get more pussy or more whatever, depending on what your sexual orientation is. But that's really what it is. You're either bullied as a young man or you're trying to pick up chicks. Right. So you get into weight training. You say, well, if I get really big and muscular, more girls want me and more dudes will stop beating me up. So you say, well, what do I need to do? I need to eat a lot of food. and train a lot and I need to get really fucking big. And then they do this for a couple of years and they end up just big and fat. Like they look, they maybe look good in clothes, but the minute they take the shirt off, it's like, Ooh, you look like a melted candle. And then they freak out and they, they go the opposite way. So they go from extreme and that anabolic stuff and they go straight into extreme catabolic stuff. And then they, they get shredded, but they lose all the muscle mass they've been putting on. So it's the pendulum. It's a human pendulum thing, right? if we have a choice, we're going to go to one extreme versus the other. So the key is to understand that pendulum needs a swing, but it needs a swing at a certain amount one direction and a certain amount another. And we don't want to go to the extremes if we want longevity and we want to make this a long-term thing.
