Critique of RPE and RIR

It's like if it fits your macros and flexible dieting first came out, then everybody was just trying to fit whatever the fuck they could in there. And for weight gain and weight loss, that works. That does work. It's just it might not be the healthiest thing. And then everybody got into the good foods versus bad foods. Like this is like the superpowers fighting each other or whatever. fucking the cold war and russia and the u.s or whatever it's like we got into these demonizing all these foods and i'm like look man i mean like you're getting something you're getting something out of the food right like so like you're looking at like six basic nutrients that you need every day like even if i'm eating donuts i'm still getting some protein carbs and fats and water and maybe even a tiny little bit of fiber so i'm covering like i'm covering like four of those essential nutrients right so it's more more to the saying of like beneficial more beneficial versus less beneficial sources of energy right which is kind of what we're looking for right but there's a man there's a lot of crazy marketing shit that i can't stand in the industry like with a nutrition some of that stuff we've been talking about with weight lifting for me it's fucking reps and reserve and rpe i can't fucking stand it i can't fucking stand it because most people that you train haven't trained long enough or intensely enough to even understand what a fucking 10 rpe is or how many reps they have left in reserve until you squat into the point where you fall now that's there you just hit a 10 right most people have never gotten there so we'll we use different things for that structure but i i'm gonna go insane if i see one more fucking person post about reps in reserve or rpe and the majority of the people who are posting about it are people who are already very well seasoned lifters but for me it's like that's doing a disservice to the people who need our help the most which are people who can barely chew and walk gum and don't know how to squat correctly man it is true like you got time and a place yeah like where where that uh rir came from is from a very iq driven cerebral lifter in in mike you know like yeah gets it because he's come through college performance and he knows what that... Talking about Mike Israetel. He knows what the folded squat feels like because he's done it multiple times. I like RP and RR if it's appropriately implemented. It can be a really good strategy, but I'm also dealing with people that are, again, very mentally attuned to how they feel and what failure is like. I can tell you right now, if us three went to the gym and we were all training, we could all probably watch each other look and go, you've got two more reps left. Right. We can probably, like, I can watch somebody warm up and I know, I know what their one or a max is going to be while I watch them warm up. Like I know I can calculate all this shit because I've spent two decades doing it. Like you guys too. Right. And you guys know, like you're lifting, you're like, all right, I got one and like three eighths of one left. And you're like, you get that one and you go, Oh yeah, there you go. So I got one on a partial, but yeah, most people we're, we're not the norm we're the outliers we're the we're the 15 percent way out there on the on the extreme side of the bell curve right it is true it's very hard to um to verbalize my warm-up to achieve my working weight to people like i do 25 of something then i do 10 then i do two then i do two then i do one and as i'm doing that i'm essentially using you know how that tension and weight feels to calculate how many more kilos I can put on to achieve a given amount of reps that's nine reps away from my current weight. Oh, that's hard to coach. You know? And they're like, what? Like, you mean there's no method? And I'm like, well, no, I'm getting feedback. I'm sensing, you know, feedback. Yeah. Plugging that into the calculator that is the brain. And that is true. That only comes with it.
