Drug Use and Natural Competitions
April 09, 2023
yeah man the stories i could tell i remember being when I first kind of started training competitors, I remember being in San Antonio, Texas, and it was at a natural competition. The girl I was dating at the time, I was coaching her for it. And we're kind of like hanging around. And one of the competitors was on the phone and you could hear him talking to his coach like, oh my God, I got randomly drawn for drug testing. What do I do? And you can hear the coach basically going, abort, abort, abort. I can't, I can't let it, I can't have anybody know that I have you on gear while you're at a natural competition. It's like, bro, if you want to do drugs, there's plenty of competition for you. Like it's crazy to me. Yeah. Like I personally think that if you've ever done steroids, you shouldn't be able to do natural. Even if you haven't done gear for say seven years, it's still unfair because when you're on steroids, you build more mononuclei out there. There's things that you build that are long lasting that never go away. and so it's still an unfair advantage even if you take seven years off and you haven't taken gear in seven years you still should not be able to go on a natural competition. The official rules with bodybuilding at least in Natty comps is five years and we think that legally sure you're abiding by the rules but it's not really abiding by the spirit of the rules. We had
This conversation with genius project is quite a few episodes ago and we disagree on this topic. We agree with you in that we refuse people that are on gear and say, Hey, we want, I want you to coach me for this competition. We'll just say like, that's cheating. We can coach you, but not in that federation in this federation, or you can find another coach. Whereas a project doesn't really care so much, but we're totally in line with you. If anything, I think Broderick finds it exciting because it's kind of like a game. Yeah. you know um but yeah it's a bad one that i some federations are slightly different some of them now have a blanket rule it kind of says if you use any substance that could enhance the performance it is otherwise not conceptual yeah and they blanket term it so like you could even say that like the reason why stimulant is banned because it gives you some advantage and they talk about an athletic advantage but you're still relying on uh the moral integrity of the individual to say yeah no i haven't done any of that because yeah but so does sleeping in a bed instead of a cave like yeah you're an advantage and then where do you draw the line like what about creatine that gives you an obvious ergogenic advantage um what about electrolytes what about whey protein like where do you draw the line uh what is natural yeah yeah and here's the thing too here's the kicker weight lifting isn't natural like there's nothing natural about it like we're primates we're built to climb and like run and jump and shit like that. Like everything that we all do every day, when we go in and we squat and we bench press, there is absolutely nothing inherently natural about that. That is completely artificial.
