The Importance of Aerobic Conditioning

January 25, 2018

Yeah, absolutely. It depends where you're talking about where do you want the glycogen to be removed from, because at a certain VO2 max, if you go higher than that, you're going to start depleting skeletal muscle glycogen. If you go below that, you're going to start depleting liver glycogen, right? So it really just depends what you're trying to do. So a long, slow, steady walk is going to rapidly deplete your liver glycogen whereas weightlifting and sprints and running in the cardiovascular zone other than aerobic zone is going to deplete your skeletal mass and in an individual that's going to change as well as their fitness changes so for example if they first start is it correct me if i'm wrong but is that when they first start are they going to be different and then as they get fitter are they going to have to hit a different vo2 max or something to achieve that glycogen depletion in the skeletal muscle possibly not hit a different vo2 max but your vo2 max changes so an average weightlifter is going to be a vo2 max in the mid 50s right whereas uh somebody who's a long distance runner is going to be up in the 80s and 90s so what you want to achieve is a high vo2 max while still maintaining your muscle mass and still being able to grow which can easily be done if you do a steady block of aerobic activity you can get your vo2 max up and you can maintain it with very little work so how do you measure that is there do you have tricks from vo2 max measuring or you
