The Education Gap in Modern Coaching

September 25, 2025

It's the worst, right? And I remember I was in Perth and, you know, Marks. Marks was at Biosig when we met 14 years ago. So she teaches body combat and she had to teach. And I was hanging out with her and I was like, well, I'll go to the gym and I'll work out while you do that. and we were there for a few hours and i i watched this one coach stay in the same area and she trained four or five people the exact same program she had a man came in did the same thing she had a little old asian lady that came in she had a huge massively obese lady came in doing box jumps it was the same program she never left that area i'm looking at her going you have four completely different clients and you're doing the same thing because you have no you have there's an education gap there but what's crazy is like nowadays when you and i 10 years ago 20 years ago you had to do canadian education like yeah because even though this is a low barrier to entry career there was a lot of competition nowadays it's not competition it's just saturated so your competition comes from just people undercutting you with prices or being very good at marketing, but not actually know what the fuck they're doing. We didn't have social media to lean on. So we actually had to know what we were doing. They had to have a portfolio, just a lot of referral word of mouth. Nowadays, anybody can look like an expert on social media and then you watch and train them. You have no idea what you're doing. And the young generation won't do continuing education. They think they can learn everything they need to on a 60-second video on TikTok or they watch a 15-minute video on YouTube where there's a lot of context missing. And they're learning for people who actually don't even know what you're talking about.
