Balancing Muscle Building with Joint Health
September 25, 2025
Definitely better than having big muscles and being strong. Yeah. Like you said, what you were talking about earlier, because you and I do a lot of the same type of things, is like having muscle but then being able to use it. So being functional, being able to move. So, you know, I've gone from like early days of teaching people how to get really strong, really lean, build muscles. But then, you know, I turned 46 this year and I've always kind of been in the movement stuff and in the remedial stuff, mental therapy, facial direction therapy, all that. And I just realized, man, we go to the gym to work our muscles, but we don't work our joints. And so we get all these guys who look really good, but can't actually move. and they five or 10 degrees in a movement of basically tearing their joint apart and becoming completely dysfunctional So like this whole weekend when we were talking you guys need to take care of your joints. And you see, like, the movement guys get it. They're like, yeah, 100%. But then you see some of the big bodybuilder guys, they're skeptical, Sam, and they're looking at me with this hairy eyeball. They're like, I don't believe you. And then you pull a big bodybuilder up and you go, let me see how far you can bring your arm back. He's like, oh, my God. that is you look great man you look you actually have no ability to move your arm or your leg where you need it to go yeah it's insane to me yeah i'm a big proponent of like what's the point of having all that muscle you can't use it i mean you you say and i say it as well it's like there's purpose like if you get ready for a show sure just do what you got to do you know at all at all costs right like athletes there is a purpose and there is even for like martial arts you need to have a certain degree of tightness like i work with boxes and things as well it's like i really just want to open them up because that's i see that and i'm like i just want to fix that but it's like no they need a degree of tightness because otherwise they lose their form you know it's
