ADHD Classifications and Emotional Impact

June 06, 2022

before we sort of go into some of the strategies you use to stay productive, because one thing I noticed about your routine there is it seems so deep focused and now i appreciate that people with adhd can go into the moments of hyper focus and then they necessarily you know go through but they can't focus at all this seems very routine very regimented which is almost like you're in a little bit of control of it but before we go into that i want to double back a little bit for people that don't know a little bit about adhd and the mechanism behind it like in your go as deep or surface layer as you want because i know you can go both you know what you know is the definition of add adhd you know is there a difference what struggles do you have because i think it's something that is very misunderstood and people just think it is laziness or procrastination or unmotivated and yeah well the thing is too it's it's the terminology and the classification changed over the years there's now i believe eight different types of add and adhd and depending on what your symptoms are, they'll classify you in one of these. And it goes kind of from a level of load at like really like severe, which mine is at the more severe range. And it can go from just, you know, a lot of people will say, well, I'm just, I'm not organized. I'm not, and I'm forgetful and blah, blah, blah. It's, if you take that stuff, like most people that are like, I can't pay attention. Oh, I'd rather get on social media. Now take that times a million and that's what you got. So, um, it's not as simple as just saying, well, I'm dropped the ball here. I can't get organized. It is like, it is a, it's a, can be very crippling, like crippling. Um, and it can lead to a lot of, a lot of depression type qualities and that type of feelings of failure and stuff like that. Um, now with the one, the type that I have, it's kind of a, like a ADD. So you've got the attention deficit disorder, but I also have a hyperactivity thing. So I can swing massively from, you know, being almost, I don't want to say it's kind of like almost like bipolar, but it's not classified as bipolar. You just go through these really low lows and really high highs, except that I get, I'm more on the manic side than anything. So if I haven't taken my Vyvanse, I'm pretty scatterbrained and crazy. And I don't think before shit falls out of my mouth. So people always hear me on podcasts and they're like, oh shit, he says some crazy shit. if I wasn't on my medication you should see what I say at that point because I say some we've had plenty of conversations off air about about the trouble I've got myself into over the last few years but this exact sort of stuff right and so I can totally like empathize with that sort of like impulse control maybe not to the same degree but I get that ability of like I need to say this if I don't say it to you I'm going to say it to someone and like that's a really difficult emotionally because you know you're going to crack eventually yeah and the impulse control is really hard that's the hard one um
