The Importance of Unilateral Training

June 06, 2025

Yeah, I think some of the most like kind of slept on exercises for like, you know, most people when they go to the gym is like, is the unilateral lower body movements. just because they are hard. They suck when you're pushing them hard. And then once you finish one leg, you're like, I have to do the fucking next one too. And as well, they can have a little bit more of a time investment because I'd be of the opinion if you're going to do one leg, then you only should have a good rest period between one leg to the next one because if you do a hard set of Bulgarians, just cardiovascularly, you're going to be fucking taxed after that. So going into the next leg, it's going to be a piss poor performance but like i i remember i was dealing with like a like some minor kind of hip and knee issues for ages from squatting and i was never ever doing any unilateral movements and i started incorporating them in and you know hips never felt better squat never looked better you know and i got as well a fuck ton fuck ton stronger too so i was able to kind of hit a number of different things there i said move better less pain stronger overall gain more muscle too um and i think as well then you know it's it can it's just another thing to gamify and i think that's something that a lot of people miss out on when it comes to training it's like they just like they can see as like or better to say exercising here they can just see it as something that they have to do like i have to do this i should go to the gym i feel bad for not going to gym and i think like a lot of us are will do better if we do try to see it as a game and a game that we can't get better at and like you know just like like if you just use the numbers in the bar i can go up to the the the 30s on my split squats for the 40s or 50s i can finish the finish the dumbbell rack and like that itself can make a little bit more pleasant to do the activity which in the moment is not too pleasant because like anything you're going to do in life is going to be like anything we're going to do in life it's It's going to be pleasant while you're doing it until you get bored.
