The Trend of ADHD Diagnoses in Fitness
March 14, 2025
i think that's like even from a cyclist that i we spoke a little bit about these sort of topics when I was at IOPC a couple of years back, but the psych realm, I think has become such a trend topic now where everyone has to have some sort of terminology, diagnosis, pathology, or on some sort of spectrum that I think it's completely watered down what it means to actually have these things. Like what it used to mean, like actual ADHD or ADD 20 years ago is now just someone that sporadically distracted and bored in what they do in life and just going oh I don actually want to research this paper write this program I have ADHD I should want to do that It like you just don find it exciting You working with people you don enjoy It it it it's weird that with all the different social media platforms, we see this linear relationship with people with ADD, but you're just fucking distracted. You're just wanting to be on social media instead of doing what you need to do. And that's why I have to govern that stuff. Like I don't really get on social media except when I'm taking a shit. That's when you see all the memes posted on my personal page. but other than that i only get on social media to check messages i don't even do our posts zoe does all that stuff because i'm not a i don't scroll i'd rather try to funnel my thing into reading a textbook and making notes and creating stuff but and that keeps me from getting overly distracted but i think yeah i the number of people i've heard in the last few weeks they go yeah i started getting on ritalin or adderall or vivance and i feel amazing i got so much work done i'm like you're taking an amphetamine. That doesn't mean you have ADD. Everybody feels amazing when they take an amphetamine. That's why cocaine is so popular. If you snorted a line of Coke or meth, you would feel amazing and you get a lot of shit done. That's what stimulants, that's what they do. But I think what matters is what's your life like everywhere else without them. And so mine is like crazy going from these, these periods of being somewhat normal to being completely fucking manic and just doing weird impulse shit that doesn't make any sense. And I don't even know why I'm fucking doing it. Right. And when, when I'm on the, when I'm on Vyvanse, that's my choice because it's steady. There's, there's, I don't have a come down and I can, people are calling me going, how do you sleep on these drugs? I'm like, I don't have, I can take, I can take Ritalin to go to sleep. It doesn't affect my brain the same as it does yours because my shit's wired differently. And I've done genetic tests for it and issues with dopamine, making dopamine, transporting dopamine and dopamine receptor affinity. it's like that is a classic case of okay a stimulant will actually create like calmness in my brain where it actually promotes a stimulant quality in other people's brains and i think that's the big the big difference but zoe can tell because uh when i'm when i'm when i'm actually on medication i try not to take it too early i'll try to get as much shit as i can while i'm still a little bit sleepy and on coffee and then i'll take it but it only lasts eight hours for me so she knows about six or seven o'clock in the evening i'm gonna come down and that's when i get real fucking weird what's weird weird saying weird shit and doing weird shit and she thinks it's funny she's like i like when you're not medicated it's hilarious i'm like yeah but i could get more work done if i was actually like at least for 12 hours of the day somewhat normal somewhat normal
