The Importance of Scientific Understanding for Coaches

August 18, 2025

Do you think, as coaches, everyone should know the science? Like your sense, like if this is happening, and I'm doing this, and this is happening, what's happening in between, and why? Do you think coaches need to know that? A hundred percent. A hundred percent. I mean, if you're going to be a professional coach or a professional trainer, you should probably know what you're doing. You should probably be able to create predictability outcomes so that when you tell a client, okay, here we are, here's the timeline from here to here, and then this is what we're going to do next. Because if you don't know what the consequences, both positive and negative, of what you're doing, you don't actually know where the bus is driving. It's like trying to drive somewhere without a GPS, and you've never been there. You're going to drive across country. You don't know where the fuck you're going to end up. If you get there. So it's one thing to understand program design. It's quite another level of depth to understand what happens when I do something. Yeah. And then know, like inherently know where that person is going to be in, say, six weeks, six months, six years. I suppose there's a lot. And this is the discussion we had in the car earlier on where it's like, OK, there's the science evidence. But then there's also like running your own experiments and gaining your own insights. but I think the more interesting angle potentially the one that Zoe said when I said what should we talk about she was like you know what you guys should talk about I'm curious to know the answer to this question and it's loaded as fuck fuck
