Learning the Chinese Weightlifting Method

December 27, 2024

Yeah, I was doing like Olympic weightlifting and just be kicking along with that for a few years. So when I learned how to do weightlifting, I learned kind of that Eastern block, Russian, American hybrid style, where in a lot of cases, if the coach doesn't, I was, I had some decent coaches, but you learn some bad habits and kind of the American way is to try to deadlift the bar to your throat and then pray you get under it. And it got to the point where I could, I could power clean a fairly good deal. You know, I could power clean like three 34 couple, I could rack it, but I could never full squat, clean it, which is not right. If you can, if you can power clean three 30, you should be able to squat clean at least 10% above that. And I, but I couldn't get under the bar because it was all about pulling the bar up and hope you get under it. And I couldn't get under it. So a few years ago, I decided to hire a Chinese weightlifting coach and learn how to do it the Chinese way, which to me is a lot more efficient. You just pull the bar only as high as you need to, and then you get under it really quickly. So I've been spending the last few years trying to learn, like reteach myself how to do that. And I train a lot of people that like to do weightlifting. So I was like, well, if I'm going to coach them to do this, I need to figure out how to do it in the most efficient way possible.
