Future of the Fitness Industry

March 04, 2021

One last question. Where do you think you see the fitness scene and industry going over the next few years? Obviously you've been in the game respectfully for a while. I've seen a few changes. Do you think there's anything big on the horizon or do you think it's going to be more marketing spiel and spin perhaps? more marketing more more 24-hour experts uh you'll see less and less people actually know what they're doing and that's the thing like that's the problem with the internet now is when i got into this we didn't even have the internet so um you know it was like reading out of books and talking to other coaches or other other people that were older and doing this stuff and i mean when i started even when i started online training i was one of the first dudes online training this is back in the mid-2000s i was sending programs on a fax machine and uh we didn't have it was all done by hand it was handwritten then you type it out on word and then you fax it to your client you call them on a fucking landline because we didn't i didn't have a cell phone you talked to him on a cell phone on the landline but i think everything goes in waves um in the it's just a perpetual cycle of things repeating themselves high car or low carb, high fat, high carb, low fat, high fat, low carb. I think one thing with nutrition is everybody's going to go carb crazy again. And they think they're going to magic. They thought they were magic snowflakes and couldn't have carbs. And now they're going to think they're magic snowflakes. And now they can have all the carbs. And they're going to find out that you guys need to stop swinging the pendulum to the extremes. And you got to find somewhere in the middle. I think that probably too a lot of governments are going to start cracking down harder and making it harder to have credentials because the market is very saturated. And 95% of people that have gone into this industry are in it for the wrong reasons. And they don't take it seriously enough. They think it's easy money and they think it's a cool job or whatever. I think that, um, I think you're going to start saying like what you said with the genetic stuff, you're going to start seeing a lot more of that type of marketing, the genetic stuff, um, trying to tell you how you should lift, how you should be this, how you should be that. And I mean, honestly, I just, I never have a good optimistic, uh, viewpoint of where we're going because I've been there and done that on the rollercoaster so many times. It's like, it just the same shit every 10 years honestly Rich repeat everything goes in cycles Yeah And you going to have there always going to be fighting from different dogmatic, cult-like sectors of the industry. The bros against the evidence-based guys, you know, the low carb against the high carb, you know, protein kills your kidneys. There's always going to be all this misinformation. But it's good for us because there's always an endless stream of people who need help and they're all misinformed. The problem is that we need to get more coaches more well-informed and we need to get them to fall in love with the science of what we do because they all want to know how to do advanced type of surgery, advanced fat loss, advanced carb cycling, but they don't know how that shit actually works in the body. If you understand how all this stuff works, give it a specific stimulus, it makes programming, it makes understanding stuff a lot easier so um because when i started teaching like nutritional biochemistry and exercise metabolism i was like nobody's gonna want to know this and that's the most popular thing that people want me to teach them when i go to class like what do you guys want to learn biochemistry shit but we attract a different crowd than a lot of the other industry right they're not really interested in crazy techniques they want to learn how to fundamentally and basically get people where they need to be without going full potato with crazy programming that most gen pop people don't need anyways
