Chapter 14 · Charlie Johnson - CJ COACHING
Genetic Testing and Methylation Pathways
March 04, 2021
One of the interesting things, what's your opinion in regards to genetic testing? In what? In regards to genetic testing. So say, for example, that you can have your, like I had mine done out of curiosity for testing. So they'll give you, so I had mine done by 23andMe, and I think then I provided the data to come with your DNA set, who then basically give you recommendations of what they think your genetic profiles opt more for. Yeah, I'll tell you, I don't know a whole lot about it. The only thing that, like kind of my understanding, this is a very uneducated opinion of this is that they're all full of shit. We don't know shit about genetics. We know some, but we don't know a whole lot, you know? And I can tell you, even with things like cancers, you know, my mom, when I was in my early twenties, got breast cancer and we asked the oncologist like, well, why is this still such a big deal? And he goes, look, as much as we know about the human body, we really only know about 4% about how the human body works. So if you're looking at that on like the whole thing and you say, well, we know all about genetics and DNA and all that, no, they don't really know yet. Right. So I think some things we can predict, you know, you have a predisposition for certain things. So if you have polymorphisms in, say, MTHFR pathways, you're going to have a hard time with the methionine-homocysteine cycle, methylated B12, methylated folic acid of the folate. That's going to affect the CBS cycle. There's a lot of other things that are coming in and out of these different pathways. There's a lot of cofactors you need for it. When you have a polymorphism, typically it's showing that you either have a dampened effect and something doesn't run as fast as it's supposed to, or you might have an overstimulated effect. You might be an over-methylator or you might be an under-methylator. So if you're somebody who massively under-methylates, and part of that's like the MTHFR, what people call the motherfucker gene, you're not going to be able to put folate where it needs to go at a fast rate. So you probably need to supplement with that instead of folic acid. If you have any methylation issues like that, you're probably going to need to take reduced B6 instead of pyridoxine, taking P5P instead of taking cobalavin for B12. Maybe you're taking methylcobalavin, adenosylcobalavin, hydroxycobalavin, whatever you think you need for where you need to put it. And then understanding that stress, chronic stress, fucks methylation like nobody's business. So if you want to screw your neurotransmitters up, if you want to screw your ability to basically drive estrogen down the right pathway, stress hormones and toxins and all that, if your brain is in a state of fear, don't worry about your little detox boxes. You're already fucked. You can take all the NAC and sulforaphane and take all the glutathione you want to do. Until you get your brain right, you're not putting any of that shit where it needs to go. So forget about it. sorry i get on these rants especially this late at night
