Addressing the Root Cause vs. Band-aids

March 04, 2021

that's something i always try and um get across the clients a lot of times they try and put plaster over things rather than trying to get to the root of the problem and if you can cut something off at the root then you don't need the plaster in this that makes sense like i think yeah same thing i see where i've seen um very poor physiotherapists for example say you have an elbow issue like an elbow and knee generally could be a consequence so you generally if you have an issue with your elbow your knees probably going to come from your hip or your shoulder so they'll treat your elbow your knee but they won't lift your hip or your shoulder so they're just treating the problem rather than the cause which i think is probably one of the biggest mistakes i see with the health and fitness industry generally anyway that's it just putting band-aids over bullet holes and not not addressing the real problem and i have that discussion with clients all the time because i do a lot of manual therapy stuff massage therapy manual therapy fast stretch therapy plus exercise therapy and people will come to me after they've seen four five six videos and a chiropractor and they'll say oh they they can't fix it they don't know what's wrong and i go okay what hurts this hurts okay let me ask me something where did they work on you well there of course they go okay there isn't the problem it's probably going to be in your shoulders probably gonna be your t-spine in your scapula and then we have to look that and then we have to look at your hip and we have to look down at your knee and your foot you know little little snap crackle pop you know moving some stuff around mobilization little traction little fast stress therapy a couple exercises and then they go oh shit i've got no pain. I'm like, cool. You should have come see me first because they're lazy. They don't want to go through the process of figuring this stuff out and investigating and also doing continuing education. They don't do any continuing education. And when they do, it's in their little echo chamber of other people that believe the same thing they do at the same school. And so they just keep, it's like a big circle jerk and they're all patting themselves on the back, telling each other good job but they're not really doing that great of work or they wouldn't have a personal trainer fixing the fucking patients
