The Problem with Extreme Contest Prep Diets

December 12, 2018

The problem is people aren't feeding it. you get girls that are doing shows and these dumbasses, these dumbass bodybuilders that shouldn't be fucking running diets anyways, because they don't have the credentials. Yeah. Right. They're running the same old fucking diets. You can have a hundred grams of fish four times a day. It makes you think it can only be like tilapia or cod. Can't have fatty fish. And you can have a 28 spinach leaves for breakfast. The reason I believe this is because I, one of my ex, my new clients, their trainer. I'm not fucking lying to you man. We had this conversation yesterday about like when you hear shit and you go, Oh do people really still do that? Is that still a thing? It's a thing. I did a consult with a girl, 28 spinach leaves, she had to count them out, she could have like 6 almonds, Fuck. Then for lunch it's like 3 asparagus spears, because that fourth one is what's going to push you up the edge. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Those extra couple of grams of carbs and fibers, that's what's going to do it. Fuck your fucking contest stuff. You know, and like I said, I've seen it done at all. I've been around the industry my entire life. It's all I know, really. You know, so, yeah. So is there a scenario where, so we talk a lot about like,

volume that much and trying to track recovery in that class up. So is there a point where you would go, alright, we've kind of tapped out your recovery capacity based on the nutrition that we need. If we train harder, you're not going to necessarily make any progress. It's more going to add stress to where you're at. We need calories at this level because we need you in the deficit. Now we'll actually go ahead and add those steps. But why add the steps? Because you can just add more real training. yeah yeah so that you know it's just wait until you use time frame yeah you gotta just add just add submaximal aerobic training yeah because that it's submaximal it's not going to affect your recovery yeah it's going to increase parasympathetic tone which means more recovery yep right it's good you know yeah whenever look it's been a long time since I've competed right yeah I hate competition I hate fucking bodybuilding I've learned to hate it because it's toxic as fuck it is I just I just I just happen to know what the fuck I'm doing with it right but for me I'm kind of now that I'm older my identity has kind of changed a little bit it's not my thing but so that's cool I hire people to coach those types of people and I can act as the consultant to my trainer so when Isaac Davidson has a competitor I look over the program let's do this let's do that what do you think about this. Okay, cool. I think that's a good idea. Awesome. Go put it in effect. And he does all the coaching. I don't have to deal with anymore, you know, so I can do all the planning and the mentoring and all that. He can deal with the fucking daddy issues. He can deal with like when, when some fucking physique dude is like deep into it and somebody opened a package of brownies and he could smell it. Oh God, I think I just smelled a hundred calories and he's like calling you freaking out and you're like, Oh my God, fuck, are you serious? This is kind of the type of shit that I've dealt with in the past. And I just give him all those problems because I'm too old to deal with it. Too old. But that's the thing. Yeah, you can add submaximal work that's not going to impair your recovery. And in fact, it's probably going to increase your recovery, which is fantastic. When I was still doing bodybuilding, I bought a treadmill. And yeah, I would stand in front of the TV and I would watch TV. And if I could sit down, I had time, if I can get on my treadmill and walk. And I bought it specifically for my contest. And then I went and got one of those acrylic overlays for reading magazines or books. And I put my laptop up there and I would work and I would just walk for hours. But I would walk fast and my heart rate was kind of high. But I had the time and I bought the treadmill to do it. Now, most of your clients aren't going to fucking do that. You could ask them, but then they're going to go, you fucking stupid. Buy a fucking $4,000 treadmill. you should do all your work on it you should get a treadmill desk fucking Joe Dingleberry's gonna go fuck you I know someone who plays Playstation on their treadmill while they walk I'm like fuck you talented baby don't you do it on your bike? yeah I used to sit on it when I competed I sat on a stationary bike just playing fucking street fighter you should try that on a mountain bike talking about stress response shit oh fuck yeah I'm really good at it to be honest but yeah anyway it's a stupid shit well yeah but you know you do it but you have an extrinsic motivator that's driving you to be able to do that yeah and you guys want to talk about Jim Pop they don't they can't be fucked you have to find strategies that actually work which is building habits and rituals over a really long time and playing the long game so hey are you
