The Problem with Low-Quality Trainer Certifications

May 22, 2024

And do you think there are there seems to be more and more courses popping up to become a trainer You know some of them are like a day online or something like that and I mean what do you think I guess of that type of training and is there a danger that people are coming out that don't have that understanding oh there's so many so many avenues you could talk about there I mean number one it's not difficult to become a trainer like in America it's ridiculously easy I got my trainer certification in a two-day workshop now you had a lot of homework and stuff that you had to do. And I had great teachers. Like one of my teachers was Tom Platz, who, if you know who that was, the golden, the golden Eagle, like basically quadzilla back in the sixties and seventies or seventies and eighties. Right. He was a very well-known bodybuilder. And then Dr. Fred Hatfield, which is a very, very well-known power lifter. Like I did have some good teachers, but it still was not that you, you go and you take a test, you pass the test test, not that hard to pass. Right. So basically anybody could do it. My mom could do it for God's sake. She doesn't know anything about working out. And not that much has changed. There are countries like Australia is a bit more, a bit more dialed in with it. You get your cert three, four, you do apprenticeship type stuff. It takes, you know, a couple of months. You can't just do it in a weekend, but, but they still only teach you the most basic stuff. So they only teach you enough to be pretty dangerous. And that's where continuing education comes into play, which is what I do after the fact. It's like, go get your certification and come talk to me. I'll tell you what to do next.
