Chapter 13 · Ali Gilbert
The Role of AI in Modern Coaching
February 20, 2026
ai is getting super popular everybody's talking about like you're gonna you're gonna have to implement ai in some way shape or form um early on people were kind of freaked out because you can go to chat gpt and like hey this is the equipment i have give me a workout program that's gonna you know do x y and for coaches, is there room for AI as well? Thinking about what you just said, right? Like it's going to take that human to human interaction to really program like to the best of that client's needs. But can they lean on AI a little bit to maybe help and sort of, um, uh, what I'll say is like impact more people, right? Cause I know if you're a coach, like you really genuinely want to help people. Is this a tool that we can use to help more people? Yeah. If you're not using ai you're a fucking idiot i mean you really are and i i was absolutely really opposed to it at first because i'm like this is going to he's going to create a situation where dumbass trainers who don't know what they're doing could just spit something out and and then give it to somebody but they don't know if it's right or not um because ai doesn't get everything right you have to train your ai so you have to figure out how like i trained my ai to think like me and i trained my ai to argue with me when i full of shit So I run like bits of information by and I have arguments with it And then I like man maybe I was wrong or oh fuck OK, so maybe I was right. You know, but I think it's a whole nother skill that people have to develop. And going forward, there's going to be inherent need to get more on the service side of the touchy feely shit. And the coaching is going to become more important because AI is getting if you know how to talk to it. It's spitting out some really good fucking programs. I still do everything by hand, but I have played around with, hey, I need you to do this in the style of this coach for this thing and sequence the exercises of this order. And it spits something out. I'm like, that's pretty fucking good. That's pretty close to what I would actually do. So it's a good way to speed up your process. Got it. Okay. And so you said you trained your AI. Do you have an actual AI platform that I could go to and ask questions and then nod? I haven't built one yet for outside. So what I've done, because I've just started this, God, I started this a few months ago. Okay. But it is, you know, you start a project in ChatGPT. You go in there and how do you want, how do I want it to talk to me? How do I want it to think? You just give it a personality and then you go. Every project has a completely different personality and the way I want it to talk to me and the way I want it to assess research and that type of thing. But it makes, it makes, it's made my life so much easier, especially when I'm doing lectures. Oh yeah. Oh dude. you mentioned adhd like when i was packing for all this shit i just like rambled for like 30 minutes and then it like put together equipment lists for me i was like oh fuck i never would have done that but thank you and so now i can go through and do it so it's fantastic i'll write notes of what okay this what i want to talk about i'll write notes and go hey can you sequence this in a way that flows nicely yeah and it'll go the outline i'm like sweet is there anything else you can think of that i haven't thought of it'll add stuff and that's the only problem with me is i always over prepare so i had like 80 slides i'm like i can't speak at 80 slides in 30 minutes so then i have to spend i spent all day like cutting cutting yeah and cutting yeah yeah i mean i guess that that is the problem that you would rather have right then like fuck i need more stuff so again if a coach isn't here today they they screwed up um
