Metabolic Adaptation and Enzyme Regulation

February 02, 2023

And the thing is with the physiological process, if you're swinging back and forth a lot, your body, our bodies are designed to not want to spend money on things we don't need. Okay, so if you, like going back to the keto thing, if you go on a ketogenic diet, if you do that for a significant period of time, you're gonna have a hard time utilizing carbs once you start eating carbs again, because there are certain enzymes that are carb specific that your body doesn't feel like it needs to make like pyruvate diogenase so you're gonna have just something that is useful carbs so you guys know yeah and so like especially for athletes if you have an athlete that's going really low carb and they go into season and they start pumping their carbs up there's going to be a transition period where the brain goes okay we have ample amounts of carbs coming and we need to up regulate these enzymes same thing with fat oxidation like let's take insulin out of the picture. Let's take, um, and just sugar by itself out of the picture. If you eat, you know, lots of carbohydrates and eat low fat, um, things, things specific to oxidizing fat, they're going to go down. Things as specific to oxidizing carbs are going to go up. That's great for an athlete. But if you, if you, if you go from a high carb diet and you go extreme to a low carb, high, you know, low carb, high fat diet, and you go right back to a high carb, back and forth if you're doing this in like really small periods of time your your brain your body's getting used to one diet and then you extremely flip to another diet it has to start catching up to the new diet and the new macros because it has to make the enzymes yeah and this is why it's so freaking important to take the long approach
