Adjusting Calories for Muscle Growth
February 02, 2023
The funny thing is this is actually a really easy fix. It's a super easy fix. So let's say let's say you go into a building phase and you're eating twenty five hundred calories and you're gaining, you're gaining. But then all of a sudden you notice, say, after we start to soften up, don't go into a don't jump into a fat loss phase. just take a hundred calories out and see how you respond. And if you haven't responded the way you want in a week or two, take another hundred calories out. Cause you may just, you may just be eating 10% more than you actually need to build muscle. So now you're putting on some fat. That's cool. Make chip away and only remove the amount of calories you need to, to tidy yourself up a little bit. Uh, cause a lot of cases, especially with, especially with eight weeks, a lot of that is just water retention. It's just water retention from training is an inflammatory process. Eating excess amounts of food is an inflammatory process. Inflammation makes you hold water, you know, especially water in the skin. So a lot of cases, if you go into like a surplus, you have to look at it as, am I actually really gaining fat or am I just a little bit bloated from the food? Am I just holding a little bit more water because I have more water on board? I have more sodium on board. If you just chip a little bit of the calories out, take a look at your sodium to potassium ratio, you might even see that, okay, this is actually just some water retention and a little bit of poo in my stomach. So you take a big, have a big poo chip away a couple hundred calories and you start finding a good, a good position of the optimal calories to keep growing without holding tons of water and without putting on gobs of fat, but I'm still getting stronger and I'm still growing. Same thing with the dieting. If you're not, if you put yourself in a 500 calorie deficit, it's not working. Don't take another 500 calories away. Just take off a hundred calories at a time. Take a hundred calories a week until you see the scale moving and your body transforming the way you want to. Stop doing extreme shit. Because if you do extreme shit, it's like taking a shotgun approach. You never know what worked. You might've taken a thousand calories away when you only really needed to take away 550. Why would you not want to eat that other 450 if you didn't need to pull that out?
