Understanding Plateaus and Skill Acquisition

January 17, 2025

Plateaus are normal. Plateaus in weight gain, plateaus in fat loss, like plateaus in strength, like that's going to happen. Now, those plateaus are going to happen more often, the more experienced you are. So if you think about this, guys who do Olympic weightlifting, you couldn't find anything that requires more precision and technique than doing Olympic weightlifting. There's no sport known to man where you need that type of technique and rhythm and timing and precision, at least when we're talking about strength sports. You can't just start doing the movement. You have to learn how to do the movement in the most efficient, best way possible. As a beginner, you will get decent enough the first year, year and a half, and you'll see your strength go really like it'll go gangbusters once you understand the movements. But once you get reasonably good at that and reasonably strong, your success is going to slow down. It becomes really frustrating. So it's like, let's say, let's say we'll take a guy, we'll take like for myself, like maybe I started doing Olympic weightlifting and I can snatch 50 kilos. You're going to get to 80 really quick. You could probably get to a hundred pretty quick going from a hundred kilos to 120. It's probably going to take three to four times that length of time going from one 20 to one 50 is going to take again, an additional three, four or five times that amount that time Right So it like you it a patient it everything pay You got to have patience for this This is a this is a long thing You not those you going to get beginner gains which are really great but those aren going to last forever So you have to dig in and use that beginner time to learn your technique. Because if you've gone from the couch to the gym, you're going to get really strong or really strong in relation to your sedentary self really quickly.
