The Reality of General Population Strength

January 17, 2025

And I came in, I'm like, okay, so we have, we do have group classes because it's like one coach with like five to six people. So they're small group classes. So there's still a lot of like one-on-one stuff. And I wrote all these beautiful, beautiful periodized programs, you know, beautiful, same stuff I would write for people, personal training and online and all that. And people were getting crazy strong. Like we had one guy, when we tested him, he pulled, he had a 75 kilo deadlift and 12 weeks later, he pulled 150. And I'm like freaking out. I'm high-fiving him and he looks at me and he goes, I don't really care about that shit. And I'm like, you just put 75 kilos on your deadlift in 12 weeks and you don't care? He goes, no, I just want to lose some weight. And I went, okay. Sometimes. So if we say like, we want to drive performance, sometimes we also need to clarify what performance means. And so for people like that, performance may be, well, more energy, better sleep, better sex, right getting up and down stairs easier so performance can be any number of things doesn't doesn't necessarily have to be like having prs on your list which i think you should but the unfortunate the unfortunate fact is some people just don't even give a shit about that which i think is sad and we should we should like because the whole point of lifting weights is to put muscle on or to retain muscle and to get stronger like that's the goal it's not to lose weight it's to put on more muscle and it's to get stronger like that's what you should do and and i apologize for anybody gym pop here but people the general population now they're pathetically weak pathetically weak they are pathetically weak and they i don't i think they don't understand they they just don't understand that like i'll go in and guys will go i don't want to be as strong as you i don't want to be as big as you and i'm like i know because you won't train as hard as i do and You won't stay on the diet. Like, I know you don't want to be at the level I'm at, but you're so fucking far away from that. You don't have to worry about it. Like, I've been trading for over 35 years. Like, you've got a long way to go to get to that level, but I'm trying to get you out of this level of, like, being incredibly incapable of doing anything strong and try to make you somewhat capable, right? Like, somewhat capable. And for whatever reason, the zombie apocalypse or whatever the fuck we're training for, like you, some some of these people are so weak that they blow their back out sneezing. It's like, come on, man. So it's like and I think a lot of people will look at you and they'll say, you know, especially like your your lifts, your big competition list. If you've done, which is a completely mind blowing weight for your body weight. Like you tell people when I'm lecturing in front of people and I tell people how your body weight to deadlift ratio, they don't believe me. I have to show them videos of you pulling what you're pulling. You pulling 185, 190 on your deadlift because they don't believe me. I'm like, no, this is true. Because and especially for Jim Pop like if you talk to my mom if I tried to tell my mom about that lift and I have to change it into pounds because she American She freedom She wouldn believe me She would think that that only something you see on like the Avengers the Incredible Hulk And then, you know what the next statement my mom would say, because my mom would be the I would consider her like the pinnacle. If you had Wikipedia general population female, you'd see a picture of my mom there. It's like she would look at that and be like, I don't want to get that strong. like i know i know so like a lot of your female clients that look at you and be like well i don't want to be that i don't want to go that far trust as coaches we know you don't but you're not gonna get there overnight no the gap is so far you have no idea how far it is at my biggest when i was two i was 120 324 kilos and i was still like between 15 and 19 body fat i was huge people would come man to train with me and they were like, I don't want to do what you do. I'm like, I know. And these would be guys who could, could barely squat their body weight. And I'm like, bro, I squat 700 pounds. Like I know I squat 318 kilos. Like I know you don't want to do that. I'm not trying to get you to do that. But right now my grandmother is stronger than you and she's dead. I'm just trying to get you a little bit stronger. Okay.
