Birth Control and Nutrient Depletion

January 24, 2025

What there are like, there are other common deficiencies that you see as well, but something to keep in mind is if you take the oral contraceptive pill, there are a lot more that come into play because that depletes a lot of vitamins and minerals. I say, you know, the big thing is a lot of B vitamins, a lot of B vitamins. Um, so like B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12, a lot of those are depleted when you're, when you're taking birth control. Um, I don't know off the top of my head extensive list because birth control is not something I usually talk to my clients. I used to, but nowadays, um, we may have a small quick discussion, but I mean, you training like 20 girls, you can't keep, I can't keep tabs on who has a period, who doesn't, who's taken birth control, who doesn't. And I think I'm lucky too, that because I train almost exclusively coaches, none of them take birth control. I don't, I very few, like, if you look into the personal training health crowd, the vast majority of the women in my section of the industry, the section that you're familiar with, most of them don't take birth control. They just practice safe sex in other ways, because they understand that there are, again, there's some consequences. What's the benefit? You don't have a kid, especially if you don't want one, or if you're not ready for one, what's the consequence though? Well, I'm trading off a little bit of poor health outcome for that. Now, is it really bad? Hell, who knows? The literature is conflicting on it and there's so many different things people could be taking. But I 100% would say if you are on a birth control pill, definitely look at at minimum a good, good quality B complex. I would look at a B complex that is already broken down to what you need in case you have some type of weird polymorphism, especially for things like B9 for folate and for B12 and also for B6. So what you'd want to look for is for B6, pyridoxia phosphate. So look for P5P. For the B9, you want to look for methyl tetrahydrofolate, not folic acid. For the B12, look for the methylated version or a mix where it's like methylated and hydroxylated or adenosyl. but those are the that's when you look at a good quality one you're going to see at minimum methyl 12 methyl folate and p5p is the b6 if you're listening to this like what the fuck then don't worry if you're one of my girls because you're taking the right thing if not then just write those names down and go back and listen to that part again
