Introduction: Fat Loss vs. Physique Transformation
January 27, 2023
I think the best way to introduce this podcast. Welcome to 100% Real with Ruby. today I got Luke Lehman here and he is like the master of all masters who completely changed my coaching game and changed me as a person and a quote-unquote athlete in the way that I approach everything and the thing that stuck with me over my journey with them which I now put out to my own girls is just stop focusing on the dumb shit because in focusing on the dumb shit we don't actually make any ground towards our goals because we keep sabotaging ourselves we keep questioning everything and digging out the seed before we let it flourish and something we were talking about off air that we think is the most important thing for many women out there to understand is that fat loss and weight loss are different but not only that using fat doesn't automatically mean you change your whole physique because you'll just look like a fettuccine strand if you don't have any muscle underneath it you'll be flat and floppy so with all that here's Luke and I think a healthy body is a responsive body is the best way to introduce this as that like this is all about building an amazing physique and with that the misconception of the two of losing fat and actually changing your physique. Yeah. Are we going? Yeah. Take it away. Oh, you're recording. Oh, I thought you were practicing. You didn't tell me. Oh, now see, I'm not used to Skype. This is cool. Usually Zoom tells me I'm recording. Yeah. Okay. So let's go to, yeah. So we wanted to tackle like, what's the difference, right? And What the misconception of these things So um now just keep in mind for anyone who doesn know who I am I been in the industry pretty much my entire life So um I been I been a coach for decades uh through powerlifting, bodybuilding, physique transformation, health transformations, everything. One of the, and I was on a mentorship call with, uh, with a good friend of mine the other day, and we were, she's primarily a high performance nutrition coach. And she does a little training on the side she's getting more into that but she trains a lot of coaches a lot of ufc fighters does their weight cuts and a lot of uh a lot of professional fighters and we were talking about how much the industry they confuse people they confuse the general population and they confuse a lot of new coaches coming in from a perspective of you know evidence-based versus not evidence-based you know fat loss versus like a physique transformation people need to understand those are two completely different things. Like when you look at most of the literature surrounding fat loss or weight loss, it's, it's basically just, we're just going to lose weight. We're just going to lose fat. It has nothing to do with making your body look radically different. So some of the strategies that you would learn through research are not strategies. They're not in my experience, they're not going to be the fastest way to get there. There are a lot more, there are a lot like better ways and better strategies to transform physique over time because most people are focused on losing a lot of weight right now what they should be focused on is not how am i how what am i going to weigh in three months what am i going to look like in three months they need to figure out what what i want to look like in three years um and social media screws a lot of this up because you see these people doing these 12 challenges 12 transformations but there's no context on where they were before, how much experience they have. And you get people who they're desperate to lose weight. They're desperate to change the way the body looks and they're getting the wrong idea about how long this takes. This is a long game process. All right. So like we were talking off air, when you look at like just losing weight, cool, stay active, you know, get get a good, you know, 8000 steps in a day, maybe get your cardio in, lift weights three days a week. and basically control starvation. That's how you lose weight. But when you look at a physique transformation, it's a lot more complicated than that, especially if you want a radical transformation. No one comes to me to lose weight or lose body fat. They come to me because they want to do that, but they want to look radically different. And they want to increase strength, increase performance, and increase a lot of other variables that have nothing to do with just the simple weight loss or fat loss process. So it takes a lot more thinking and a lot more programming, a lot more in-depth, complicated programming than just what you would see with a normal trainer at, say, Gold's Gym. And I think that's important for people to understand.
